The right expertise around the boardroom table
The composition of a board should reflect the organisation's situation, ambitions and challenges – not simply which names are available within the existing network.
PU helps owners, nomination committees and boards define the need, identify relevant candidates and assess who can bring the right expertise, experience and perspectives to the board.
When can Board Search be relevant?
The need may arise through ordinary changes in board composition, changes in ownership or when an organisation enters a new phase. Growth, international expansion, transformation, acquisitions, ownership changes or new strategic priorities may require different expertise and experience around the boardroom table.
The starting point should therefore not simply be who might be suitable for the board, but what the organisation actually needs from its board going forward.
We start with the organisation and the board
Before searching for candidates, we seek to understand the organisation's context and what the board collectively needs to contribute:
- What does the organisation need to achieve over the coming years?
- What role should the board play?
- What expertise and experience are already represented?
- What is missing or needs to be strengthened?
- What kind of profile would complement the existing board?
Based on this understanding, we define the desired profile and conduct a targeted search for relevant candidates.
Search and assessment
A board appointment requires more than a relevant CV.
We assess candidates' experience and expertise against the organisation's needs, as well as their motivation, understanding of the board role, capacity and ability to contribute constructively to the specific board.
PU presents a qualified selection of candidates and provides the owner, nomination committee or board with a structured basis for the next stage of the decision process.
Is the need not yet clearly defined?
Through our Board & Leadership Advisory services, we also help owners and boards assess board composition, governance structure and future capability needs.
